Emma- lady in red paint

Yesterday afternoon myself and a small coterie of fellow daubers braved the appalling weather to attend the penultimate session of Kate Shield's Museum of the Muse in which a different model (or models) each week chooses a theme for the event. This week it was the turn of the lovely Emma Sandham-King who decided to paint her hands and feet in red paint then do a series of 2 minute poses so that her body become progressively covered in red hand prints. Towards the end she looked like a scene from Dexter but it was an interesting an vividly visual experiment. Here are my best ones. Next week, for the final session in this series, it's the divine Miss Potts.

Sonia

I'm making up for a three weeks break by getting as much life drawing done as is humanly possible whilst still meeting my deadlines in order to keep make some money for the taxman which he so richly deserves. These are taken from Thursday afternoons session with, new model, Sonia at Jake's studio in New England House . It was a very enjoyable session and all the assembled scribblers and daubers thought Sonia was great to draw. The only problem with churning out all these life drawings is that they take ages to scan into my pooter and tickle up in Photoshop. I have two more sessions of stuff waiting to be scanned. Hey ho-so it goes!

Charlotte

The fruits of last night's life drawing session at the Sussex Arts Club.
The model was Charlotte who was wonderful to draw. I'd only drawn her once before when she was dressed as a rabbit (I think it was a rabbit) for the launch party of the art sessions at The Old Market.
They are held every Wednesday at 7.30 til 9.30 (I think). Bit fuzzy this morning.

Digital painting

For a few months now I've been reading Imagine FX and absorbing the advice of all the talented digital artists out there in Pixel-land with a view to having a go myself.
Well I've bitten the bullet (or the Wacom tablet) and had a bash at it.
Here are my first 4 efforts. No doubt I'll look back at these down the line and see all kinds of faults  but right now I'm mildly chuffed with how they turned out. These were all done in Photoshop which is the
programme I know best. More to come, I hope!

Anna and Johanna at the Museum of the Muse

Yesterday afternoon I attended Kate Shields' life drawing event entitled "The Museum of the Muse".
Our two models were partners Johanna and Anna posing in styles reminiscent of the work of Tamara de Lempica whose works was a very Art Deco in style and has a high class decadent look to it which is very difficult to emulate so I didn't try. I have drawn the willowy and elegant Johanna a couple of times before, most notably wielding a full size scythe in Jake Spicer's Grimm's Fairy Tales event and she is an amazing model. Her partner Anna, whom I hadn't drawn before was equally delightful as she reminds me of the young Lee Miller. The room in which the session was held is quite small and I was lucky that there had been a drop out or Kate would have booted me out as I'd not reserved a place and just turned up on spec. It was a fabulous session and I hope some of my drawings reflect that. Thanks to Kate and the lovely models.

Drawings of King Ian

I had a very arty day yesterday.
I'm back in grey old Blighty after three weeks in sunny Palma where I was working in my little flat.
I still can't find any life drawing groups in Mallorca so I was glad to get back to some scribbling at Jake's Thursday lunchtime session. The model was Ian who played the role of the King in Jake's wonderful Grimm's Fairy Tales inspired drawing event a couple of months ago. Here are my best efforts.
On the way there I was shat on by a seagull. In over 25 years in Brighton this has only happened a couple of times and is generally regarded as a good luck token. So fingers crossed!
Last night I attended the Brighton Illustration Group's 6 by 6 event where I was one of the six artists talking about their work and influences. Harry Venning (of Clare in the Community fame) stole the show with is hilarious demonstration of how to become a cartoonist.  And a fabulous fun event it was!
