Last night at the life drawing session at The Sussex County Arts Club our model was the fabulous Beth who , unfortunately, won't be modelling for us for another year as she's off to study circus skills in Paris. Apparently, clowns are very big at the moment even small ones.

Katieee!
My final life drawing class at Bill's Tuesday night session at Sussex County Arts Club was very enjoyable as the attendant scribblers grooved to Bill's cool tunes as we tried to capture the tall and elegant Katie on paper and iPad. Here are my best ones.

Magnificent Michaela!
Last night after a two month break, I attended the SCAC life drawing session where our model was Michaela. I hadn't drawn her for a few years but she's always been one of Brighton's best models do I was delighted to draw her again. She's been away for a couple of months working on a project in Ibiza, an island I've never visited despite spending a lot of time in Majorca. One day!

Jenny on the Blog
What a treat to once again draw the wonderful French model Jenny at the Sussex County Arts Club last night. She has the most toned physique I've ever seen due to her hobby of rock climbing. Also in attendance were some of the usual suspects- Rich Newman, Geo Parkin, Xavier and Alexa Garside. We were joned later in the pub by Mark Harrison for a good old moan about art!

Life- that's the name of the game!
Last night I attended the always excellent life drawing session at SCAC hosted by mister reliable- Bill Donohoe. It was a busy session with lots of regulars including Rich Newman and fellow cartoonist Geo Parkin. Unfortunately, I can't remember the model's name but she was excellent.
Here are some of my scribblings.

Katie
Last night I attended my first life drawing class for a while at SCAC in Brighton and our model was titian haired beauty Katie who was a delight to draw. The sparce class (first of the new year and bloody cold outside) was attended by regulars- fellow cartoonist and lover of Mad magazine, Geo Parkin with his newly sprouting full beard and Rich Newman showing off his new iPad to the envious attendees. needless to say, we repaired to the favoured local hostilery afterwards to discuss all and sundry and quaff strange ales. Fun fun fun!

Rachel under the Cathedral
There is a big contrast between the availability of life drawing sessions in Brighton and Palma.
In Brighton you can go to many different life drawing sessions in different venues all over the city both day and night and in Palma I can only find one. And it only happens once a week on a Wednesday afternoon but it does take place in the exotic setting of the ancient stone vaults in the shadow of Palma´s magnificent cathedral. So it was there that I persuaded my Russian friend Anna with whom I had a recent exhibition at the German Consulate to join me in drawing the beautiful Rachel. Here are my best attempts.

Laura the Fabulous Finn
Last night at The Sussex County Arts Club we were treated to a session modelled by Laura the Fabulous Finn who threw some wonderful poses while we all grooved to Bill's excellent (always)
compilation of banging tunes. I hadn't drawn Laura for a while and had forgotten how good she is to draw.

A Brace of Beauties
Yesterday I was privileged to draw two of the best of our local models here in the damp city of Brighton and Hove. I'm trying to build up a number of watercolour or charcoal drawings to choose
from for the up and coming exhibition in Worthing so to that end I had the gorgeous and very talented Jasmine Glover round to my flat to pose for Alexa and me in the afternoon then I went to my regular class in the evening at SCAC where our model was the luminously lovely Lucy Victoria Sponge who is also very talented. I'm still exploring the theme of the shadow that we all carry with us. Freud calls it the unconcious mind which also encompasses the collective unconcious and is usually a very negative influence that has to be confronted and accepted whereas Jung things the shadow contains positive elements like the spark of creativity which (as we artists know) can be richly rewarding. A bit deep for as jobbing cartoonist but that's what I'm (subconciously) trying to put across. Anyway, here are the best from yesterday. Jasmine is on top with Lucy under her. Er... I think I could have put that better. I need a lie down.

Sophia
Tuesday night's session at The Sussex County Arts Club was pretty full as usual and our model was the excellent Sophia who could hold a pose like a statue. Other cartooning stalwarts in attendance were Geo Parkin and Phil Dobson. Here are my attempts at capturing the lean and lissom Sophia.

Gormenghast
I went along to another of Jake Spicer's themed drawing events at The Old Market last night. It was in conjunction with the Brighton Illustrator Group so there were some familiar faces there including Geo Parkin (showing off his prowess on his iPad), Joe Moore, Amy Rogers etc...
The theme this time was Gormenghast which happens to be my favourite book (well, trilogy, in fact.)
by the genius writer and artist Mervyn Peake. Four models posed as the characters Steerpike, Fuschia, Cora and Clarice. Jake, who is also a huge fan of the books wants to stage a bigger event, possibly in the open air, next year incorporating more of the characters. If anyone can do it Jake can, so I'm keeping everything crossed for that. Here are my best efforts from the night.

Alice themed drawing night
Last night there was another of Jake Spicer's themed drawing events. This time the theme was Alice in Wonderland and we were treated to 4 different models (Lucy, Laura, Frankie and Ian) dressed in the style of some of Lewis Carroll's characters. The evening was great fun although personally, I was fading fast after a heavy work load and was feeling a bit "drawn out". Anyway, here are my best efforts tickled up a bit in Photoshop.

4 Lucys
Despite battling an almost impossible deadline (more of which on a future blog) I hoisted a drawing session at my place for me and Alexa. We hired Lucy Victoria Sponge to model for us. She's always a pleasure to draw and we both got some good work out of a fun session. here are my favourites.

Big Emma
Last night's life drawing session featured Big Emma. It made a nice change to draw a larger lady after all the slim and lissome lovelies that we normal have to suffer here in Brighton. Here are my best efforts.

Kate Shields
In yesterday's life drawing session at The Sussex Arts Club the looooooominous Kate Shields was our model.
I've drawn Kate a few times and she's always inspiring. Here are my best efforts.

The Flirtinis
I went along to last night's new session organised and hosted by the fabulous Kate Shields at The Artist Residence hotel here in Brighton. Our (clothed) models were the burlesque duo known as The Flirtinis who struck a series of interesting poses first dressed as naughty nurses then in gorgeous satin ballgowns. Loved it!

Voluptuous Lucy
Last night's life drawing model at The Sussex Arts Club was the voluptuous Lucy who was lovely to draw. Here are the best of my efforts.

King Ian
Although I generally prefer drawing women, occasionally I get to draw a strapping geezer like Ian.
This is from Jake's Thursday lunchtime session. Please don't look at his willy. It's rude!

Afternoon delight
Went along to the afternoon session at The Sussex Arts Club yesterday where there was a delightful model posing who was new to me. I didn't get her name but she was lovely to draw with great poses and amazing dreadlocky hair. Here are my best efforts.
