Yet even more life drawings
Last week I crammed in more life drawing sessions in two weeks than I'd done in years and I even found time for a private session with my lovely friend Marie. Here are the best ones.

Yet more life drawings
Here are the best drawings from last week's class at Jake Spicer's.
The model was Emma who was wonderful to draw.

This week's life drawings
I've gone a bit nuts with life drawing classes this week (I've been to 5). Here are some of the better attempts at drawing models Frankie, Vicky, Colette and Luke (yes- a man!). I'm drawing my friend Marie tonight then going to Jake Spicer's lunchtime class tomorrow then I think I'll need a break from all that naked flesh!
Work avoidance exercises
As work has tailed off a bit it allows me to indulge in some early morning nonsense sketching or work avoidance exercises as I like to call them. I never know what I'm going to draw until I begin, usually with a random squiggly line. Then if that suggests something I will develop the image. If not I'll turn it upside down and draw another squiggly line until some image starts to appear to me like staring at flowery wallpaper and seeing faces. Anyone can do this as it doesn't rely on any skill as an artist and is a very enjoyable and absorbing distraction from the usual problems of the day. Give it a go! You might surprise yourself!

More work avoidance exercises
As a freelance cartoonist who has faced endless tight and impossible deadlines over the thirty odd years I've been in business, it is one of life's small pleasures to make drawings or images just for myself without having to please a client or fulfill a brief or make piddling changes that some faceless commitee of pencil pushers has deemed necessary ( I'm going off on one now). So here are some recent examples of drawings I've done for myself. Someone once called this (it may have been Dali) taking a line for a walk and it's great fun. Try it! You don't need to be able to draw you just need to be able to move a pencil over a piece of paper.

Life drawings- Kate and Frankie
I gone life drawing crazy this week! Still, I might as well take advantage of my work load being a bit thin. These are from a session at Bill's Brighton Arts Club and one at Jake's Brighton Life Drawing class. The lovely models were Kate and Frankie.

Life drawing yet again.
My good friend Marie posed for me again the other evening after we'd eaten the delicious soup that she brought round. Yum!

SFX- The Jetsons
I have a regular spot in SFX magazine- the best magazine in the known universe (I'm slightly biased)
which reports on all thing Sci-Fi. I illustrate a regular feature called Development Hell about upcoming film projects and those that have stalled.
The article is written by the esteemed Nick Setchfield who once got a mention in an issue of The Fantastic Four. Much bowing and tugging of, long gone, forelock.
The current issue (on sale at all reputable newsagents) features my cartoon depicting a film version of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Jetsons to be produced or directed (or something) by Kanye West who is a lifelong fan of the show. I've added some previous cartoons too.

Life drawings- Laura
Another life drawing class. This time at Jake Spicer's studio in New England House. I'm cramming them in before I go back to Palma where there aren't any that I can find. Apparently it's the same in Paris. Strange that two places with many art galleries have no life drawing classes. Go figure! (I hate that expression.) Today's model was lovely Laura, who is also an artist. A lot of girls who model also draw.
Doctor Sketchy- Dolly Diamond
The first session of the Brighton version of Doctor Sketchy took place on a freezing Tuesday night in the King and Queens pub.
Our model was the fabulous Dolly Diamond. She is normally a photographic model and this was her first time at modeling for artists. She was terrific to draw and held difficult poses like an old hand. Also present were the very talented fellow artists - Geo Parkin and Jake Spicer. Can't wait for the next one.
It will feature the amazing Frankie (who was also present) modelling and dancing. Should be good.

Life Drawings- Johanna
I spent a very pleasant couple of hours yesterday afternoon at the Sussex Arts Club drawing the girl with the longest legs since the 50 foot woman- Johanna. My fellow cartoonist mate Geo Parkin was there too and we retired to the Collonade bar afterwards to sort out the problems of the Universe. (No doubt everyone has noticed the different). Here are my best efforts.
